Grammy Nominations!!!

Lil Wayne’s, “Tha Carter III,” will be going against: Ne-Yo - “Year Of The Gentleman,” Coldplay - “Viva La Vida,” Radiohead - “In Rainbows” & Alison Krauss & Robert Plant - “Raising Sand.” A rap album hasn’t won the album of the year since 2004 with Outkast’s, “Speakerboxx/Love Below.” Kanye got nominated for album of the year in 2005, 2007 & 2008. Lil Wayne was nominated for 8 total awards.

The only other rappers to be nominated for album of the year for this decade are Eminem & Nelly. Clearly the Grammy awards only like a particular style of rap and are not fans of any, “gangsta rap.” Top rap artist like 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Nas, and T.I. have never been given a nomination for the award despite their success.

M.I.A.’s, “Paper Planes,” has been nominated for record of the year. Rap nominations are below

Best Rap Album:
Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
Jay-Z - American Gangster
Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
Nas - Untitled
T.I. - Paper Trail

Best Rap Song:
T.I. - Jay-Z, Lil Wayne & Kanye West - Swagga Like Us
Lupe Fiasco - Superstar
Lil Wayne - Lollipop
Snoop Dogg - Sexual Eruption
Flo-rida - Low

AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS!!!

This past sunday marked the return of the American Music Awards for 2008. Overall the show was good and the performances were decent. To me it seems that celebrities try so hard to be different or stand out they put on wild outfits for the red carpet.

MTV'S TRL IS OFFICIALLY OVER

Nov. 16th marked the end of Mtv's teeny bopper music video show. Mtv's TRL was brought on air 10 years ago and seems to have ran its course on cable television. I think MTV got the message that nobody was watching TV after school anymore ever since sidekicks, texting, and the internet started ruling the tween and teenage world.

NEW T-PAIN "Karaoke"

This video features T-pain playfully making fun of the rappers who feel a need to imitate his style using auto-tune.

What are your thoughts on him saying people are biting his style when he took that the auto tune from Roger Troutman. Hmmmmm...

You Know What Really Types My Keys???

You Know What Really Types My Keys???

Basically I'm writing this entry as an online venting device. Recently there has been some stuff on my mind that i was keeping inside but i feel through this blog i can vent.

This weeks vent is centered around the new upcoming generation of rappers ie Soulja Boy and others. But before u say "Oh he's a hater or bashing the south," look im a fan of all music except for country but in these days in rap music I've noticed a growing trend to basically say whatever comes to ya head and spit ova a catchy beat. Its like there is no attention span left in the game anymore, everything is quick in and out, cut and dry. (Make Money Nigga!!!) Not to say that i have a problem with make some money off my creativeness but i just feel like you have an obligation to the listeners who take in what u say to them on the regular.

I mean when i first caught wind of this whole down south movement thing i thought it would be for a short time but it kept growing and growing...

Look I have no problem with the adults who had their shots as far jeezy, lil' wayne, t.i., luda. and i cant tell a grown man to chill out, but these lil niggas are so wide nosed out here and wanting the glamorous life and what not. I feel that yeah alot these people live different lives and come from different backgrounds but whats wit all this dance music and then calling it rap cuz its not. Its exactly what it is dance music and you are not a rapper you are a "Dance Instructor."

Now that the personal opinion has been out there, here is my other side of the argument. Now im not stupid to that fact that money is really hard to come by these day for anyone especially with less employment and job qualifications, so if a guy or girl can find a honest way to make money then so be it, but to say we sell out all of our morals and pride for a dollar i would have to disagree. If you have nothing good to say then stay in school and try to make something out yaself, dont just quit for a quick buck. You can make good music without looking stupid ie weird dances that look awfully like slave cakewalk(look it up) and talkin' bout sellin drugs for a living.

"we are killing our own people to make a dollar."

Can we sell music without selling out? Honestly you tell me!!!

ALTERNATIVE WATCH: JUSTICE " A CROSS THE UNIVERSE" DVD TEASER

This is a French electronica band named "JUSTICE" who produce highly catchy songs with hard hitting bass and drums that has been used in various commercials such as Cadillac and video game trailers. Throughout their concert tours, they have documented their daily lives with video and will be released to the public on Nov. 24th.

Personally I like a number of songs from their debut album "+"

Jennifer Hudson's Mother and Brother DEAD!!!

The brutal murder of actress/singer Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother and the abduction of her nephew.
Here's what we know so far:
  • On Friday morning at approximately 9:00 AM a gunman approached the home where Darnell Donerson (Jennifer Hudson's mother), Jason Hudson (Jennifer's brother) and Julian King (Jennifer's nephew) were staying.
  • The gunman fired through the door striking Hudson's brother, Jason, 29 and killing him

  • The shooter then entered the house and continued to fire, hitting Hudson's mother when she entered the room.

  • Police believe that the killer (or killers) then abducted Julian and fled in Jason's white Chevrolet Suburban, plate number X584859

  • At approximately 3 PM, a family member discovered the body of Darnell and called authorities

  • Julia Hudson (Jennifer's sister) returned home from work that evening - and learned what happened

  • Julia contacted Jennifer and told her what happened. Jennifer immediately left promoting her new movie Secret Lives Of Bees and returned to Chicago.

  • According to the Chicago Tribune, at 1:25 a.m, Jennifer Hudson identified the bodies of the deceased as Darnell Donerson and Jason Hudson

  • Shortly after that Jennifer's brother-in-law (Julia's husband) William Balfour was taken into custody as a suspect in the murders

  • William Balfour has reportedly invoked his right to remain silent and is refusing to cooperate with investigators

  • Julian King has not yet been found. The F.B.I. and the Chicago police department are working tirelessly to find him - but they need your help. If you have any information on the whereabouts of 7 year old Julian, please contact the Chicago Police Department at 312-745-6052.

As far as motives, there have been numerous. The Chicago tribune has a number of possible motives for the crime. Here's what they're reporting:
Family friends said the couple recently had a dispute over Julia Hudson's car. Balfour sold the 2003 Chevrolet Impala without her consent and she called police, neighbor Chiquita Stanton said.

Julia Hudson complained on her MySpace page about losing the car and suggested she now depended upon her brother, Jason, to drive her to work. Michele Balfour said her son co-owned the car, but only Julia Hudson's name is on the registration.

Stanton said Balfour threatened to take the boy away if Julia Hudson continued to "play him." But she considered him harmless because he was "keen to stay out of jail" after serving prison time on a 1999 attempted murder and carjacking conviction. Balfour's family said he stole a car with other teens and hit a tree while the driver was on the hood.
